If you decide to do your packing by yourself, in few steps this guide will help you to do the right job.

Pack large and heavy items first.

Pack smaller items next. Use these to fill in spaces around larger items

  • Before you start packing:
  •
  • Sortout items you don't want to move.
Hold a yard sale or give away items before you move.
Flammable items, matches, firearms, and other dangerous items should never be packed in boxes. These items should be hand-carried in a car for safety reasons.
  •
  • What not to pack and load on the moving van.

Label boxes clearly on the top and at least one of the sides. Use felt-tip marker rather than labels, which can peel off. Thorough labeling will make your moving and unpacking much easier.
Write your name, your moving contract number, the room to which the box should go in your new home and a general description of contents.
